Alex Nisbet for Fargo Park Board
Passionate. Practical. Ready to Serve.
I’m Alex Nisbet, and I’m running for Fargo Park Board Commissioner with real excitement and deep gratitude for the community that helped shaped me. Fargo’s parks aren’t just green spaces — they’re a genuine treasure that enriches every part of our daily lives. They bring joy, connection, and countless opportunities for play, relaxation, and togetherness. From neighborhood playgrounds to beautiful trails, golf courses, and the exciting new Sports Center Complex, our park system dramatically improves the quality of life for every resident, no matter their age or background. These spaces are where memories are made, where families grow stronger, and where our community truly comes alive. My wife Erin and I are raising our daughter Nora and our golden retriever Lily right here in South Fargo. We spend countless joyful hours at our neighborhood park and exploring everything Fargo’s parks have to offer.
This community has given me and my family so much — and now I’m eager to give back in a meaningful way. I graduated from Fargo North High School in 2004 and was thrilled to return home several years ago to join Xcel Energy as a regulatory policy specialist. As an attorney, I’ve built a strong track record advocating before administrative tribunals on complex regulatory issues, representing a wide range of clients and interest groups. I’m pragmatic, hardworking, and passionate about finding practical solutions that deliver real results. These skills — clear communication, thoughtful negotiation, and the ability to balance competing needs — are exactly what I’ll bring to the Fargo Park Board to help our parks thrive for everyone. The current Park Board Commissioners and dedicated Fargo Parks staff have done an outstanding job, delivering impressive projects like the Island Park Pool and the new Sports Center Complex. I want to build directly on that momentum with even greater energy and focus. If elected, I will champion:
- Affordability and Access: Keeping parks, pools, and programs truly affordable and welcoming for every family, every senior, and every child — because great parks should never be out of reach financially.
- Transparency and Communication: Shining a bright light on what’s available and how decisions are made, so every resident feels informed, heard, and genuinely invited to participate. Stronger communication builds trust and brings more voices to the table.
- Inclusive, Intergenerational Spaces: Creating and supporting vibrant amenities and programs that bring together toddlers and teens, adults and seniors — spaces where every generation can play, connect, and belong. Now more than ever, our parks are essential. In our increasingly busy and sometimes disconnected world, these welcoming third spaces outside of home and work offer priceless opportunities for stress relief, physical health, social connection, and that wonderful sense of belonging that makes Fargo feel like home. I’m running for Park Board because I care deeply about Fargo’s future. I want to help ensure our parks and programs continue to bring us together, support healthy and happy families, and make our incredible community an even better place to live — for Nora’s generation and for many generations to come. Fargo’s parks are worth fighting for. Let’s keep them vibrant, accessible, and full of life — together. I’d be honored to earn your vote on June 9.
